Each week The Kommish will be giving start/sit advice by position. Check back weekly for updates.
Start ‘Em QBs
Sam Bradford (Rams @ Bucs)
Bradford has been relatively hot and cold in 2012, but he has been serviceable. In Week 16 the Rams will be facing the lowly pass defense of the Bucs. Tampa Bay is giving up the most points to opposing QBs. They are giving up an average of 19.4 fantasy points to quarterbacks.
Tony Romo (Cowboys v. Saints)
Romo and the Cowboys face a Saints defense that is giving up the 2nd most points to quarterbacks. With Drew Brees on the other team that means this one could turn into a shootout. Look for Romo to have a big game.
Matt Schaub (Texans v. Vikings)
The Texans have the AFC South clinched, but they are still fighting for the #1 seed going into the playoffs. They will be facing the Vikings in Week 16, who are giving up an average of 18.1 fantasy points to opposing QBs. It should be a big week for Schaub.
Ryan Tannehill (Dolphins v. Bills)
Yeah, yeah. The Dolphins offense is a mess. That said Tannehill has a good matchup in the Bills this week. Buffalo is giving up the 3rd most points to opposing QBs.
Sit ‘Em QBs
Jay Cutler (Bears @ Cardinals)
Arizona may be a nightmare show on offense, but they have a sound pass defense. They are giving up the 2nd fewest points to opposing quarterbacks. This could be another head scratcher for punchable Cutler face.
Colin Kaepernick (49ers @ Seahawks)
Kaepernick has been on fire since taking over in San Francisco, but this could be his week to come back to Earth. He will be facing the toughest defense in the league on Sunday Night Football. That Seahawks defense is terrifying. Go another route if you can
Andy Dalton (Bengals @ Steelers)
Dalton had a so-so week last week, but his Week 16 matchup is much worse. Cincinnati will be facing a Steelers team that is giving up a lowly average of 11.5 fantasy points to QBs. That’s 4th best in the NFL.
Philip Rivers (Chargers @ Jets)
Laserface has been terrible this season. Many owners have been hanging on in hopes of seeing the Rivers of old. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been showing up. This week the Chargers face the Jets and their defense that is giving up the 5th fewest points to QBs. Steer clear of Rivers.
Start ‘Em RBs
DeMarco Murray (Cowboys v. Saints)
The Saints continue to have the worst defense in the league. They are giving up the most points to running backs. Murray should have a good day in Week 16.
Reggie Bush (Dolphins v. Bills)
It seems the Dolphins are giving the ball to Bush again here at the end of the season. They will be facing a Bills team that is giving up an average of 20.9 fantasy points to opposing RBs, so it could be a big day for Reggie.
Stevan Ridley (Patriots @ Jaguars)
The Patriots will be facing a Jacksonville defense that is giving up the 4th most points to running backs. RBs are averaging 20.4 fantasy points per week against the Jags. Ridley will have a good day.
DeAngelo Williams (Panthers v. Raiders)
Williams had a big Week 15 and he stands to have another good week this week. Carolina will be facing an Oakland defense that is giving up the 3rd most points to opposing running backs.
Sit ‘Em RBs
Beanie Wells (Cardinals v. Bears)
Gotten the hint yet? Don’t be fooled by Wells’ Week 15 numbers. He isn’t worth starting, and the Cardinals will be up against one of the toughest run defenses in the league. The Bears are only giving up an average of 12.0 points to RBs.
Trent Richardson (Browns @ Denver)
Richardson has been solid all season, but this week isn’t going to be an ideal matchup. The Browns will be facing a Denver defense that is giving up the 4th fewest points to opposing running backs. It could be a rough day for Richardson, so look elsewhere if you can.
Frank Gore (49ers @ Seahawks)
This one is going to be a defensive struggle. Gore has looked good through much of the season, but this week’s matchup versus Seattle is bad news. The Seahawks are giving up a skinny average of 12.9 fantasy points to opposing running backs.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Bengals @ Steelers)
The Steelers have a tough defense and they are giving up an average of 13.6 fantasy points to opposing running backs. It’s likely going to be an unproductive day for BJGE.
Start ‘Em WRs
Danny Amendola (Rams @ Bucs)
Amendola has a great matchup this week versus Tampa Bay. The Bucs are giving up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Look for Bradford and Amendola to connect early and often.
Jason Avant (Eagles v. Redskins)
Avant is seeing an increased roll with Jackson out, and he seems to have good chemistry with QB Nick Foles. Maclin is still the clear #1 for the Eagles, but Avant could be a good start against a struggling Washington secondary. The Redskins are giving up the 2nd most points to wide receivers.
Anquan Boldin (Ravens v. Giants)
Torrey Smith is questionable going into Week 16 as he’s waiting to be cleared following a concussion last week. Boldin has been seeing increased looks lately, and Smith being out will just stand to further increase his role. He’s been hot up until getting shutout in Week 15 by the Broncos, but look for him to bounce back against a weak Giants pass defense. NYG is giving up an average of 23.9 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.
Jon Baldwin (Chiefs v. Colts)
The Chiefs offense has been nonexistent, and no one wants to believe my Baldwin suggestions. But, he’s going to have his week and it stands to be Week 16 versus the Colts. Indianapolis is giving up the 4th most points to opposing wide receivers, and their patchwork secondary could have problems with a big athletic receiver like Baldwin. Ricky Stanzi could be starting at QB for KC, but it really can’t be any worse than Brady Quinn. That said, Baldwin will have some big plays against the Colts.
Sit ‘Em WRs
Danario Alexander (Chargers @ Jets)
DX has a bad matchup this week as San Diego visits NYJ. The Jets are giving up the 2nd fewest fantasy points to opposing receivers. Combine that with Philip Rivers propensity to struggle, and you have a recipe for a bad week. Might want to sit DX this week.
Sidney Rice (Seahawks v. 49ers)
Russell Wilson and crew have looked good of late, but this Week 16 matchup is going to be a drudging mess. The 49ers are giving up the 3rd fewest points to opposing WRs.
Michael Crabtree (49ers @ Seahawks)
Catch my drift here? I’m pretty much saying don’t start anyone in this game. There’s just too much risk all around. The Seattle defense is a nightmare, and it’s going to be a bad day for offenses in the Pacific Northwest.
Denarius Moore (Raiders @ Panthers)
Moore and the Raiders have a less tan ideal matchup against Carolina in Week 16. Palmer hasn’t been looking too hot, and the Panthers defense has been holding opposing receivers to a combined average of 16.6 fantasy points per week.
Start ‘Em TEs
Ben Watson (Browns @ Broncos)
While the Denver defense has been solid this season, they have been susceptible to giving up points to tight ends. The Broncos are giving up the most points to opposing TEs.
Jermichael Finley (Packers v. Titans)
Tennessee is giving up the 3rd most points to opposing tight ends this season. This should be a big week for the Green Bay offense, and Finley stands to have a big week.
Greg Olsen (Panthers v. Raiders)
Olsen has been fairly hot lately and he has a good matchup in Week 16. Oakland is giving up an average of 8.2 fantasy points to opposing tight ends. The Panthers are likely going to have a strong offensive day this week, so look for Olsen to do well.
Sit ‘Em TEs
Jacob Tamme (Broncos v. Browns)
Peyton Manning has the Denver offense looking good this season. However, it’s a bad TE matchup in Week 16 as the Browns are giving up the fewest points to opposing tight ends. Might want to look elsewhere this week.
Jermaine Gresham (Bengals @ Steelers)
The Steelers have a good pass defense, and they are giving up the 3rd fewest points to tight ends. This isn’t the week to play Gresham.
Martellus Bennett (Giants @ Ravens)
Marty B has been solid for the most part in 2012. However, he isn’t facing an ideal matchup in Week 16. The Ravens are giving up the 6th fewest points to opposing tight ends. Look for Bennett to struggle.
Start ‘Em Ks
Graham Gano (Panthers v. Raiders)
The Panthers are likely going to do a lot of scoring in Week 16. Plus, Oakland is giving up the most fantasy points to kickers. That’s a strong reason to start Gano.
Sebastian Janikowski (Raiders @ Panthers)
Look for Oakland to need some points from the leg of Seabass this week. There’s a good chance he’ll be looking at some long ones, and Carolina gives up the 4th most points to kickers.
Lawrence Tynes (Giants @ Ravens)
Tynes had a terrible week last week. Look for him to bounce back in Week 16 against the Ravens. Kickers are scoring the 2nd most points against Baltimore.
Sit ‘Em Ks
Greg Zuerlein (Rams @ Bucs)
Greg the Leg has struggled so far this season. Despite having the leg, he’s been inaccurate on the long kicks he’s been given. The Bucs have surrendered the fewest points to kickers this season, so Zuerlein isn’t an ideal choice in Week 16.
Jay Feely (Cardinals v. Bears)
Arizona is going to struggle this week and the Bears are giving up the 2nd fewest points to opposing kickers. There are plenty of other choices out there.
Jason Hanson (Lions v. Falcons)
The Lions could struggle against a tough Falcons pass defense this week. Atlanta is giving up the 5th fewest points to kickers, so Hanson is probably not a good choice.
Start ‘Em D/ST
Chicago Bears @ Cardinals
Arizona is getting beat up on this season by defenses, and the Bears happen to be one of those defenses that is beating up on weak teams. This is going to be a bad bad week in Arizona.
Indianapolis Colts @ Chiefs
The Colts defense hasn’t been very impressive in 2012. However, if they ever had a week it would be Week 16. KC is giving up the 2nd most points to defense/special teams. Indy can be opportunistic on defense and they have a good pass rush. The Colts D/ST is a great spot start this week.
Atlanta Falcons @ Lions
The Falcons pass defense very good and it just so happens that Stafford gets into pretty nasty INT spells. You know the Lions will be trying to get it to Megatron, so look for some defensive grabs by the Falcons. They could have a good defensive week.
Sit ‘Em D/ST
Jacksonville Jaguars v. Patriots
Goes without saying. Defenses are averaging -1.1 points against the Pats.
Cleveland Browns @ Broncos
The Browns defense has shown signs of brightness in 2012, but this isn’t going to be one of those bright weeks. Defense/Special Teams are scoring the 2nd fewest points against Denver.
Detroit Lions v. Falcons
The Falcons are giving up the 5th fewest points to defenses this season. It’s just a bad matchup for Week 16. Look elsewhere.
